Privacy
The short version: you can play every day without giving us anything at all. If you want your streak to follow you between devices you can give us an email address, and that is the only personal detail we ever ask for. We do not sell your data, we do not run ad networks, and we never collect anything about your health.
BrainGamer is run by Kumar Media LLC, a Wyoming company, which is who “we” means everywhere below and who is responsible for the handful of data described here. You can reach us any time at [email protected].
Playing without an account
No sign-up, no cookie banner, nothing sent to us. Your puzzles, your streak, and which games you have played today are stored on your own device in your browser's local storage. Clear your browser data and it is gone, including your streak, which is why an account is worth having if you care about keeping it.
If you arrive through one of our partners' links, your device also keeps that partner's code for 60 days. It names the partner, not you, and it reaches us only once you are signed in.
If you make an account
We store your email address, a user id, your streak and rest days, which puzzles you have finished and how they went, your settings, whether you subscribe to BrainGamer Plus, and, if you came through a partner's link, which partner sent you. That is the whole list. Partners see only counts and amounts, such as how many people subscribed on which day and on which plan, never your name or email address. There is no password, because we email you a six-digit code instead, so there is no password of yours for us to lose.
What we never collect
We do not collect health information, medical history, or anything a doctor would recognize as a record. BrainGamer is entertainment and mental exercise, not a medical assessment, and your results are not a health measurement of any kind. We do not ask your age, your address, or your phone number, and we do not buy data about you from anyone.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of companies to run the service, and they only ever see what they need to do their job:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores your account data. Their servers also keep the usual web server logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention.
- Resend delivers your sign-in code. They see your email address.
- beehiiv runs the Dr. Kumar Discovery newsletter. They see your email address only if you sign up for it on Dr. Kumar's page, which is the one place we ask, and every issue has an unsubscribe link.
- RevenueCat and Stripe handle BrainGamer Plus subscriptions. Stripe processes the payment and holds your card details. We never see your card number. If you are one of our partners, Stripe also collects the bank and tax details it needs to pay you. We keep only the id of your Stripe account.
- Google Analytics tells us how many people visit which pages. It only loads if you agree to it, and you are asked plainly the first time you visit.
Cookies and measurement
The site itself needs no cookies to work, and we set none for advertising or tracking across other sites. Google Analytics does set cookies, so we do not load it until you say yes. If you decline, the site works exactly the same. We also count anonymous, aggregate events such as "a puzzle was finished today" with no identifier attached, so we can tell whether the games are working without following anyone around.
Reminders
If you turn on a daily reminder, your browser gives us a subscription token so we can send the nudge, along with the hour you chose and your time zone offset. The reminder carries no information about you: the wording is fixed and written into the app. Turn it off and the token is deleted.
Children
The games are designed with adults in mind, but anyone is welcome to play them. Playing needs no account and collects nothing at all, so a child can use BrainGamer without us holding any information about them.
An account does ask for an email address. A child under 13 should only make one with a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has made an account without that permission, write to [email protected] and we will remove it.
Getting your data out, or deleted
You do not have to ask us, and you do not have to wait. Both of these are buttons on your account page, under "Your data":
- Download my data saves everything we hold for you as a file, straight away.
- Delete my account and data removes your account and all of your saved progress from our side, everywhere, not just on the device you are using. It asks you to confirm once, because it cannot be undone.
If you are not signed in, the same button clears everything stored on that device. And if you would rather a person did it, email [email protected] and we will. You never have to give a reason.
Where your data lives
Kumar Media LLC is based in the United States and our processors store data there and in other countries where they operate. If you are in the UK or the EU you have the right to see your data, correct it, take it elsewhere, or have it erased, and the email address above is how to ask.
Changes
If we change what we collect we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant and you have an account, we will email you rather than hope you notice.
