Spectrum

Higher or lower? Read the lineup one item at a time.

See the part of your brain this keeps active →

Spectrum is a calm daily round of higher-or-lower across a big grab-bag of quantities, from bones in the body to grains of sand on the beach. You see the first amount, then guess whether the next thing is counted higher or lower. Each comparison is between amounts of similar size, so it is always a real call. Keep your streak going as long as you can.

How to play

  1. You get eight everyday quantities, drawn from a wide dictionary of "how many" facts.
  2. The first item is the anchor: you see its name and its amount.
  3. You see the next item by name only. Pick higher or lower with the buttons under it.
  4. A correct call advances the anchor. The first wrong call ends the day.

Common questions

Is everyone's lineup the same?
Yes. The same eight items in the same order for every player each day.
What if I do not know an item?
That is the puzzle. Use what you know about the items around it and your sense of the scale. Even unsure calls often work.
What happens after my first miss?
The day completes, the amount you missed on is revealed, and your streak number locks in. Your daily streak keeps going.
