Multilingual recognition
Polly
Read a word in any tongue. Pick its meaning.
Polly is a quick daily tour through the world's writing systems. Six prompts, each in a different language, each shown in its native script with a transliteration underneath. Pick the English meaning from four options. The same set for everyone each day. Over weeks, common words like "hello" and "water" cycle through many languages so you start to recognize a script even when you do not know it.
How to play
- You get five prompts, each from a different world language.
- Read the word in its native script. A romanization sits underneath when the script is not Latin.
- Tap "Hear it" if the button is showing — that means your browser has a voice for that language.
- Pick the English meaning from the four options.
Scoring and streaks
- Completing the run counts toward your streak and earns at least one star.
- Getting two thirds or more right earns two stars.
- A perfect read of every prompt earns three stars.
Sharing your result
When you finish, you get a spoiler-free badge to share. It shows how you did, never the answer, so friends can be curious without spoiling their own puzzle.

Common questions
- Is everyone's lineup the same?
- Yes. The same six prompts in the same order for every player each day.
- Why no audio for some languages?
- The speak button shows only when your browser already has a voice installed for that language. Many laptops ship voices for French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and others; less common languages may stay silent.
- Is this a language-learning app?
- No. Polly is built for recognition, not acquisition. Over time the same common words cycle through many languages so you build a familiarity with scripts and sounds without studying.
